Once your employer publishes a roster, you are notified of any shift assigned to you, and notified again whenever an existing shift changes. This article covers finding your roster and responding to a shift once it is there. Responding to a shift that has been opened up to several staff at once, rather than assigned to you directly, is covered separately in Responding to an Open Shift.
From your Tempus employee dashboard, your upcoming shifts are listed for you to review. Each shift shows the site, the role and the times you are rostered for.
Depending on how your employer has Tempus configured, you may be asked to actively accept a shift once it is published, or you may only need to take action if you are unable to work it. If you decline a shift, it reverts to being unassigned, and your employer is notified so it can be reassigned or reopened.
If you cannot work a shift but do not want to decline it outright, you can swap it with another eligible employee instead, where your employer has this turned on. When you choose to swap:
You are shown a list of recommended employees eligible to take the shift: those who work at that location, are not already rostered elsewhere, unavailable, or on approved leave at that time, and who hold the right work type or classification for the shift.
You choose who to swap with, and can add a comment for them to see.
That employee is notified and can accept or decline the swap.
Depending on how your employer has swaps configured, the swap may need manager approval before it takes effect. You are notified once it is confirmed either way.
⚠️ Important: Your employer may set a cut off period before a shift starts, after which it can no longer be swapped. Check with your payroll contact if you are unsure what that cut off is.
If a shift on your roster looks incorrect, or you believe your working pattern is not being reflected properly (where one exists), please raise this with your payroll contact rather than Tempus Support directly.
