Building a roster in Tempus is a straightforward process. This guide covers the fundamentals of viewing your roster, creating shifts, and making basic edits.
Key Concept: Draft vs. Published. When you first create shifts, they are "Draft". Draft shifts are invisible to employees. Only after you "Publish" then will employees be notified and able to see them.
Understanding the Roster Views (Day, Week, Fortnight)
You can change your roster view to suit your needs.
1. At the top right of the roster screen, select Day, Week, or Fortnight.
2. The Week view is the most common and is the default.
3. You can navigate to different periods using the < and > arrows, or by clicking a date on the mini-calendar in the left-hand panel.
Creating a New Shift
1. Find the employee and the day you want to create a shift for.
2. Click on the blank roster cell. This will open the Create Shift panel (usually on the right).
3. Enter the Start time and End time.
4. To add a break, click Add Break and enter the break start and end times.
5. Select the correct Location.
6. You can also add a Work Type or Note if needed.
7. The employee you clicked on will be assigned by default. You can add more employees to create the same shift for multiple people at once.
8. Click Save. The draft shift will now appear on your roster.
Editing, Moving, and Deleting a Shift
You can only edit or delete shifts that are in "Draft" (unpublished). If a shift is already published, you must un-publish it first.
To Edit a Shift:
1. Click on the draft shift you wish to change.
2. The shift panel will open. Make your adjustments and click Save.
To Move a Shift:
1. Click and hold the draft shift.
2. Drag it to a new day or a different employee.
3. Release the mouse button to drop the shift in its new place.
(Initially, the shift from previous screenshot was assigned to 'My Employee One'. Click and hold the draft, it is now assigned to 'My Employee Two' with the same day as Monday 24th November.)
To Delete an Individual Shift:
1. Click on the draft shift to open the panel.
2. At the bottom of the panel, click Delete this shift.
To Bulk Delete Shifts:
1. At the top of the roster, find the red Delete X shifts button.
2. Click this button to delete all draft shifts currently visible on your screen.
Copying Shifts
You can quickly duplicate shifts you've already created.
To Copy a Single Shift:
1. Hold down the Shift key on your keyboard.
2. Click and drag an existing shift to a new, empty cell.
3. Release the mouse button. A new, unpublished copy of that shift will be created.
(The shift on 24th Monday, following the keyboard strokes, it was copied successfully to 26th Wednesday)
To Copy a Whole Period:
1. Click the Roster actions button at the top of the screen.
2. Select Copy shifts.
3. Choose the period you want to copy from (e.g., "This week").
4. Choose the date you want to copy to (e.g., the start of next week).
5. Click Copy Shifts. The copied shifts shows for the week 1-7 December 2025.
